When I made my resolution those few months ago I needed a few new warmer clothes as the winter was getting close. You know that time of year – when you start to dust off your previous year’s clothes and find things you’d completely forgotten you owned! Even here in England where, let’s be honest, there’s not a big difference between seasons, you still need to send your bikinis back down into the dungeon and take out those jumpers and coats again.
The biggest problem I always have is that some clothes no longer suit me. They have turned into rubbish garments during the summer, who knows how… but I believe it is related to the bad quality materials they are made of. So I decided to choose my new pieces very very carefully.
What I got after researching online for new brands are these beautiful garments you can see in the photo below. These were my choices and I am absolutely delighted with them. Timeless pieces that I will wear every winter.
First, the mustard cable knit jumper from Thought, which is simply gorgeous. I’ve never had such a beautiful or comfy jumper. It’s quickly become a favourite item in my wardrobe and I wear a couple of days every week. It’s made of organic cotton and is super soft so it feels scrumptious against your skin.
I also got from Thought a box with 4 pairs of socks. They each have different patterns, all of them very cute (with birds, dots, stripes..), and are made from bamboo! How brilliant is that! Socks made of bamboo! I can’t recommend these highly enough – they are so soft and comfortable, sustainably produced… You really can’t miss these! I believe they’re releasing more designs for the spring season and I’ll definitely be getting myself some more of these magical bamboo socks.
Thought is an ethical brand that cares about people and the planet. They only use what they call “force-of-nature fabrics” for their products. This means that their garments are all made of naturally grown materials such as bamboo, cotton, wool and hemp. They are also innovating with new sustainable fabrics such as tencel and modal.
Again, it’s not only their deliciously soft clothes but also their philosophy that appeals: “It’s about the whole journey for us. From where we source our fabrics. How and where our manufacture happens. And who we work with. Not forgetting of course, how our finished collection reaches your wardrobe”. They’re a fantastic brand, full of energy and new ideas, with beautiful designs that are kind to the environment and made with the greatest of respect. You truly can feel this when you wear their pieces.
And the white blouse! The lovely white blouse we mustn’t forget – it’s from a brand called Bibico. This brand was founded by Snow, a former high-street clothing designer who became disillusioned with an industry that had such disregard for its workers and materials and us. What’s interesting about Bibico is that they work with two female cooperatives that are fair trade certified. These provide women with training, education and work, which helps them and their families escape poverty. They have a shop in Bath but you can buy from their online store too.
The last piece featured is a grey coat made by People Tree. Made with organic cotton, it’s a versatile addition you can wear with jeans, chino trousers, skirts or dresses. It’s a bit like a chameleon in that it seems to match absolutely everything. Super comfy and perfect for any season; winter, spring, autumn or even a cool summer day. I love it!
