I saw this challenge on a few fashion blogs recently and I always wanted to give it a go! I mean, what can be cooler than thinking of different ways to wear your clothes and try them all? Nothing, right?
I realise that sometimes we wear the same clothes every day. Same combinations, colours and styles which can, unsurprisingly, make us feel bored, outdated and, even worse, like we need to buy more clothes in order to feel stylish and fashionable again. But that’s not really a good reason to go and spend money on a bunch of new clothes, is it? So, what can you do instead? Something much more creative! You can put together new looks and combinations with the clothes you already have and I promise you they are going to look and feel like new pieces you’ve just brought home from a shopping trip. 🙂
We all have those clothes we bought, wore once and never got out again! What I’m recommending is that instead of leaving them lurking in the shadows, get them out of your closet and combine them with other pieces that you wear far more often to create new looks. Looks to go to work, to go out with your friends, to go to dance on a Saturday night! Think of creative combinations, singular alternatives that you never thought of before and then wear them. Show them to your friends and family and see what they say, I bet most of them will ask you: ‘oh wow, is that new? Where have you bought it?’
The way to a more ethical closet is not only to buy from ethical brands, or to buy second hand, or not to buy clothes at all…it’s about being conscious of what you already have, about adjusting your shopping habits and attitudes towards the clothes you already own. Trying not to spend money on ridiculous purchases and taking care of what we have is a step we all should implement in our lives.
So yes, lets start with the fun and let me show you my 5 combinations. I choose 3 pieces of clothes: one pair trousers, one dress, and one shirt. I accessorised them all with a bell and pair of shoes, my Oxford Brown ones (sight of love here).
1. – First combination: Wearing the trousers with the shirt. I think this would be perfect to wear to work or even for a special occasion (by simply swapping the flat shoes for high heels and paring them with a nice clutch bag).
2. – Second: Wearing the dress on its own. You can never go wrong with this option. Any dress ALWAYS looks fabulous on its own.
3. – Third look: Wearing the shirt underneath the dress. This is a good way to keep wearing your beloved dresses during the winter too (just pair it with a pair of boots and tights!)
4. – Fourth: Using the dress as a skirt with the shirt on the outside. A special look for the spring, very flattering and you can try to do the same with any dress and shirt you own.
5.- Fifth and final combination: Wearing the trousers again with the dress as a t-shirt. This is my favourite as I feel super comfortable wearing this. Red is my favourite colour too and in this combination it really pops!
Tell me what you think about these 5 looks and please try to do the same at home. Honestly, it is so much fun discovering new combinations for your clothes! It’ll make you fall in love with them all over again, giving them the value and respect they deserve. ☺
Lovely. I enjoyed reading this.
Thank you Min Jee 😊
I love the 4th one 😍. What a great idea!
